News is one key component to the success of the Five Elements Community. However, we can not stay on top of things without some help. That said, this FAQ will serve as a guide to those who wish to aid 5E in submitting news and keeping our members up-to-date on the latest happenings in games and other news.
Step 1
Other than finding the actual news step 1 is simply hovering over "Submit" and clicking on "Submit News."
Step 2 - Add Content
Populate your article with the news you are wishing to submit.
Step 3 - Add Images
- Every article should have an image associated with it. To add an image simply click on the image button in the main toolbar. The image button at the bottom of the article DOES NOT allow you to upload images to the server.
You will then be shown the Image Manager. Click on Root under folder to make sure you are at the root of the image directory. Click on the create folder button to create a new folder which should be done only for articles that need custom images (news games etc). If your article can use a standard image (Steam News, TF2 News etc) navigate to captions and use the images there. If you don't like the images that are there upload a new one in the captions directory so others can use it. 
Next click on upload image and upload the image you want. Once finished just hit the X and close the Upload window. You can add multiple images if necessary and then hit upload. Find your newly uploaded image and hit insert. It may be necessary to hit the refresh button to show the newly uploaded images.
Step 4 - Resize images
This example article is going to be considered a "Featured News" article which displays the article in the slideshow on the homepage. That said IMAGES MUST BE 660px X 300px to be added as featured news, which you can see from the giant image in my article. However you can resize the image to a width of 300 using the manager. Just select the image, the corner and drag to a width of 300px. Grabbing the corner contrains proporions so the image doesn't look goofy when resized. However large images will still look goofy when resized. 
Then align the image to the right using the right alignment button (make sure you select the image first).
Step 5 - Article Options
*Selection: In most cases this will be News.*Category: In most cases this too will be news or the game the news is related to.
If you do not select a Category and Select the article will not be assigned to anything and nobody will see it!
*Published: Select Yes (Users who are not publishers will not see this.)
*Show on Front Page: Yes unless you do not want anyone to see your article.
Author Alias: Make sure you put your alias here otherwise it may show your real name.
Start Publishing: Generally this is left alone but if you want to publish an article at a specific date and time you can use this option.
Finish Publishing: Stop the article from being published at a certain time. Again this is hardly used.
Access level: Who can read the article? Generally left as public.
Ordering: Do not worry about this.
Description: Briefly describe the article this can be left blank.
*Keywords: Add some keywords you may use if you were searching for this article. The keywords are extremely important and help find related news. This isn't something 5E started to utilize until 5ev6. Adding the keyword Featured adds that specific article to the slideshow on the main page. If this is a feature article make sure you have an image and that image is 660px X 300px.
